Diamond Education

Every diamond is unique. Each reflects the story of its arduous journey from deep inside the earth to a cherished object of adornment. Yet all diamonds share certain features that allow us to compare and evaluate them. These features are called the 4Cs. At Bowers Jewelry, we take pride in sharing our knowledge with customers and helping them understand the amazing and unique features of individual diamonds.

The 4Cs - DIAMOND GRADING

The Gemological Institute of America developed the 4Cs and the International Diamond Grading System™, the standard used around the globe. Expert gemologists examine each diamond under controlled lighting and viewing conditions, in order to provide the most rigorous assessments of a diamond’s 4Cs.

Our gemologists grade to GIA standards, the most stringent and precise in the industry. We offer diamonds with GIA certificates, as well as diamonds with reports from other reputable laboratories such as EGL USA and AGS. Selecting a diamond is truly an experience to take in with your eyes, as each diamond has its own unique characteristics and beauty. We look forward to showing you the technical details and the incredible brilliance and beauty of the diamonds we offer!

Natural Diamonds... why should you choose a natural diamond?

Natural diamonds remain a wonder of nature, with a romance and beauty that has lasted through generations.  The value has remained consistent over time.  Many people feel that there is something undeniably alluring about owning the real thing versus something made to imitate it – no matter if it is gemmologically identical. To hold a diamond in your hand that has been formed as if by magic – but let’s call it science – deep in the earth millions or billions of years ago, is truly special.

Lab-Grown Diamonds... are they real?

Yes. Lab grown diamonds are real. They are not simulants like CZ or Moissanite. Lab grown diamonds are not “fakes.” Aside from subtle carbon distinctions, they are chemically identical to natural diamonds. The technical difference is that they’re not billions of years old. Lab-grown diamonds are grown in factories using sophisticated chemical synthesis over a period of 1-4 weeks. Once grown, they are polished with the same tools and brought to market in the same manner as natural diamonds.  (source: www.igi.org)
